Tracker Rate Notifications (beta)

Octo Aid v5.5.10 +

Octo-Aid will send you a notification showing the following days electricity and/or gas tracker rates when they are available.

This is a beta feature and therefore there could be teething issues to start with. If there are any initial issues, I will do my best to iron these out as quickly as possible.

In Octo-Aid settings, there will be options for electricity and gas tracker notifications. You will need to turn on the notification types that you would like to receive

Octo-Aid will require push notification access for iOS, iPad OS or macOS. You can check this by going into your main device settings, selecting notifications, and then selecting Octo-Aid. Make sure that Notifications are enabled.

This feature is only available to those running version 5.5.10 or above of the Octo-Aid app with an active Octo-Aid Plus subscription.

Weather Data

Octo-Aid will display weather data such as temperature, wind speed and cloud cover throughout the app. The following are included (but not limited to):

The daily consumption view will display the highest temperature, lowest temperature and average wind speed for each day.

Historical alerts will be shown where appropriate on the daily consumption view, such as low temperature or high cloud cover (cloud cover alerts will only be shown when export is selected at the top right).

A new weather data view will show the forecast for today and tomorrow along with forecasted cloud cover as a percentage, average wind speed and temperatures.

When viewing a single day in the usage tab, you can compare your usage to the outside temperature directly on the chart by tapping 'Show Chart'.

UK Carbon Intensity

Octo-Aid will display the UK carbon intensity forecast (measured in gCO2/kWh) directly on the 'more' tab with more data available when tapping on it.

The current day and following 2 days forecast will be shown on the 'More' tab

A popup view will show the minimum, maximum and average intensity for each day

The popup view will also show a more granular half-hourly carbon intensity forecast chart

iCloud Smart Charge Sync

For those on Intelligent Octopus, your smart charges will be backed up to iCloud. This allows for automatic syncing between multiple devices (so adding a smart charge on one device means it will automatically sync to any other devices you have that use Octo Aid and are signed in to the same Apple ID). It also ensures that smart charges are saved even if you delete and reinstall the Octo Aid app!

UK Electricity Generation Fuel Data

Octo Aid will provided insights into the UK's electricity generation fuel mix right at your fingertips. Dive deep into the details of renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and biomass, all presented with their respective percentages. The most recent data from the National Grid will be displayed with real-time, granular information. Quickly view the past 24 hours of fuel mix and their percentages, showing just how much of the UK's electricity was generated by wind, solar and more.

Apple Family Sharing

Octo Aid Plus has full support for Apple iCloud Family Sharing, so you can share your subscription amongst other devices in your iCloud family. Visit the Apple website to learn more

Customisable Shortcut Buttons

Access to a new shortcuts panel on the home screen which can be customised to take you directly to areas within Octo Aid of your choice, such as the smart charges view or the EV charge calculator.

1. Introduction

Welcome to Octo-Aid Plus, an enhanced subscription service offered through the Octo-Aid app. This service is designed to support the ongoing development of the Octo-Aid app while providing subscribers with exclusive features.

2. Subscription Features

As a subscriber to Octo-Aid Plus, you will gain access to:

Weather data powered by Apple's WeatherKit. Note that historical weather data is available only for up to the past three months prior to the start of your subscription. After your subscription begins, weather data will be stored and accessible for up to 24 months.
Carbon intensity forecasts and generation mix data is provided by the National Grid ESO.
Smart charges backed up to iCloud

I may decide to add more exclusive features to this subscription service via future updates.

3. iCloud Usage and Dependence

Octo-Aid Plus offers the ability to backup smart charges to Apple's iCloud Key-Value Store. This feature is intended to enhance user experience by providing a means for data backup and synchronization across devices. However, users should be aware of the following:

Dependency on iCloud Services: The effectiveness of this backup feature is contingent upon the availability and functionality of Apple's iCloud services. Octo-Aid is not responsible for any downtime, data loss, or other issues resulting from iCloud service disruptions or failures.
User Responsibility: Users are responsible for ensuring their device settings are correctly configured for iCloud backup and that they comply with all applicable iCloud terms and conditions set forth by Apple.
Data Security and Privacy: While iCloud is used for data storage, the security and privacy of your data are subject to Apple's iCloud security measures. Octo-Aid does not have control over the security protocols of iCloud services.
Limitation of Liability: Octo-Aid shall not be held liable for any loss, corruption, or breach of data stored on iCloud. Users should regularly check their iCloud backups and ensure they have alternative backup solutions if necessary.
iCloud Terms and Conditions: Users of the iCloud backup feature are also subject to Apple's iCloud Terms and Conditions, which govern the use of iCloud services. It is the user's responsibility to review and understand these terms.
Please remember that Octo-Aid is developed and maintained by a solo developer in my free time. Although I am dedicated to providing a reliable and bug-free experience, there may be instances where unforeseen issues or bugs arise, particularly with new features like iCloud data backup. I appreciate your understanding and patience, as resolving these issues may take time due to my commitments outside of app development.

By using the iCloud data backup feature in Octo-Aid Plus, users acknowledge and agree to these conditions.

4. Carbon Intensity and Generation Mix Feature Dependence on National Grid API

The carbon intensity forecast and fuel generation mix features in Octo-Aid Plus relies on the API provided by the National Grid ESO. Users should be aware of the following considerations:

Continued Availability: The provision of carbon intensity and generation mix data within Octo-Aid Plus is dependent on the continued availability of the National Grid's API.
Potential Disruptions or Termination: In the event that the National Grid experiences issues with their API, or decides to discontinue their API service, the carbon intensity and/or generation mix features within Octo-Aid Plus may become unavailable or be removed without prior notice.
No Control Over Third-Party Services: Octo-Aid does not have control over the operation, maintenance, or availability of the National Grid's API. As such, we cannot guarantee uninterrupted service or the accuracy of the data provided through their API.
No Liability for Service Changes: Octo-Aid will not be held liable for any interruption, inaccuracy, or discontinuation of the carbon intensity or generation mix feature arising from issues related to the National Grid's API.

Users acknowledge and agree that the availability of the carbon intensity and generation mix features are subject to the National Grid's API's operational status and may be affected by factors outside the control of Octo-Aid.

5. Payment and Pricing

Details regarding the pricing, payment methods, and billing cycles for the Octo-Aid Plus subscription will be provided during the subscription process and are subject to change.

6. Subscription Renewal and Cancellation

Your subscription will automatically renew at the end of each billing cycle. You may cancel your subscription at any time, with the cancellation taking effect at the end of the current billing period.

7. Subscription Management via Apple In-App Purchase

The Octo-Aid Plus subscription is managed through Apple's in-app purchase system. This includes all payment processing, billing, and subscription renewals. Users can manage their subscriptions and may turn off auto-renewal by going to their Apple account settings. All refund requests are subject to Apple's refund policy. 8. Service Modification and Termination

I reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Octo-Aid Plus subscription service at any time. This includes the right to remove the service in situations such as the sale of the app to another person/company. Subscribers will be notified of any significant changes to the service or terms via the Octo-Aid Facebook community group.

9. Limitations of Liability

We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the Octo-Aid Plus service.

11. Development and Support

As the sole developer of Octo-Aid, I am committed to providing a high-quality user experience. However, users should be aware that I develop and maintain this app in my free time, alongside a full-time job. While I endeavor to ensure that all features function correctly, there may be instances where bugs or issues arise.

Please understand that:

While I strive to fix bugs and address issues promptly, there may be delays due to my other commitments.
I appreciate your patience and understanding in these situations. Your feedback and bug reports are valuable and will be addressed as soon as possible.
User support and bug fixes will be managed to the best of my ability, given the constraints of developing and maintaining the app in my spare time.
I withhold the right to remove any of the Octo-Aid Plus subscription features at any time. A valid reason will be given for performing this action.

12. Acceptance of Terms

By subscribing to Octo-Aid Plus, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.
